Full Description

1941 aerial photographs (S1) show 5 military buildings (possibly Nissen-type huts) on Dunwich Heath, some of which have associated trenches. A gun emplacement can also be seen nearby (at TM47326790). Also close by is a square barbed wire enclosure, c 35m across, which may well be associated with the other features. This group of features is of World War II date and may form part of a training site (possibly a firing range). Dunwich Heath has a variety of features from this period, and seems to have been used as a military training area. The site has been cleared by 1945, and all that is visible of the structures are their concrete floors (S2).
