Full Description
A stretch of minefield c350m long can be seen on the beach between TM47796743 & TM47806708, to the east of Minsmere bird reserve, on 1945 aerial photographs (S1). This minefield was a component of the coastal defences in this area duting World War II, and may have been deployed here to protect a breach in the sea bank - a potential weak point in the natural defences of the coast. The minefield is not visible on aerial photographs from 1943, and may therefore have been an addition to the coastal defences in the later stages of the Second World War.
