Full Description

A World War II road block, located at TM 25854762, is visible as a line of concrete blocks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s. The road block appears to consist of a short stretch of concrete anti-tank cubes, roughly 32m in length, running along the southern side of the road. At the western end of the anti-tank cubes two rows of square marks can be seen crossing the road. These are probably slots into which a temporary road block would have been inserted, rather than concrete cubes, although it is difficult to be sure from the photographs. One or two concrete cubes can be seen on the northern side of road just to the south of the railway embankment. The road block may have been located to control movement between Woodbridge and the large airfield to the south centred roughly on TM 250455. The fact that the road block is positioned at the point where Sandy Lane crosses under the railway line may also be of significance. (S1-S3)
The road block is no longer visible by 1955. (S4)
