Full Description

A World War II barbed wire obstruction is visible as a structure on aerial photographs from 1944. The structure is centred on TM24353386, and runs in an irregular 'V' shape for approximately 174m, from TM24343390 to TM 24443384. The structure is located to restrict access to the complex of buildings and sports ground associated with Shotley naval training base which are located immediately to the north. The barbed wire has been removed by May 1946. (S1-S2).
