Full Description

A World War II pillbox is visible at TM 29055016, perched on the flood bank at the north side of the Deben, close to Wilford Bridge. The pillbox is a Type 22 hexagonal pillbox and a blast wall indicates that the entrance was on its north-west side. The pillbox was probably strategically located in order to defend Wilford Bridge, the first crossing point on the River Deben, from enemy attack during World War II. (S1, S2) The pillbox was removed sometime before 1962. (S3)
