Full Description
A possible World War II military site is visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s, centred on TM 29654912, on the western side of Bromeswell Heath. The site consists of a central building with a number of pathways radiating from it to other smaller buildings or features. None of these other buildings and features can be clearly identified. The site may be surrounded by lengths of barbed wire obstruction. (S1, S2) By 1945 the boundary around the site appears to have been removed as do a number of the other features on the site. The pathways from the central building are less defined, also suggesting that activity on the site has decreased. This decrease in the level of activity in 1945 supports the interpretation of the site as having some type of military function. (S3) In later years the site was used as a wireless station, which may possibly be some reflection on the site's military purpose. (S4)
