Full Description
A Post Medieval sea bank is visible as an earthwork on photographs taken in 1945, on the southern side of the Deben in Sutton parish. The bank is 0.68 km in length and runs from TM 28044877, opposite the yacht harbour, to near Little Haugh at TM 28354923. (S1) The 1st and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey 25" maps of circa 1884 and 1904 both depict a bank in this position. It seems likely therefore that the flood defence has a Post Medieval or earlier date.
