Full Description
Post Medieval sea banks are visible as earthworks on photographs taken in 1945, on the eastern side of the River Deben at Ramsholt. The first bank is roughly 1 km in length and runs from TM 29594259, near Lodge Plantation, to TM 30194206, near Cragpit Plantation. The second stretch of bank is roughly 0.49 km in length and runs from TM 30334193, south of Cragpit Plantation, to TM 30624157, just to the north of Ramsholt Dock. (S1) Banks are depicted in the same positions on the 1st and 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey 25" maps of circa 1884 and 1904, suggesting that the flood defences are of Post Medieval date. (S2) (S3)
