Full Description

A group of World War II slit trenches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs in the grounds of Sizewell Hall, centred on circa TM47486222. The trenches are not visible on 1940 photography, and in 1941 photography the ground surface is obscured somewhat by overgrowth, but there is some indication that the features may have been dug by this time (S1, S2). The trenches are clearly visible in photography of 1942 (S3). They were probably located here to supplement the protection offered to the inland access road by the strongpoint recorded as ARG 023.
