Full Description

A weapons pit or Light Anti-aircraft machine gun post and probable slit trench are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, centred on TM47136112. The features are first visible on aerial photographs of 1945 (S1). However, as the earlier photographs of 1942 do not quite reach inland to this location, it is possible that they were introduced at the same time as the nearby slit trench ARG 030, but are simply not visible. A circular feature is visible at TM47136112, which has been interpreted as a weapons pit or Light Anti-aircraft machine gun post. A short linear earthwork is visible to the east of the weapons pit, but the quality of the 1945 photographs does not allow for a more detailed interpretation. Photographs of 1952, however, appear to show the weapons pit as a ploughed out circular earthwork, and the feature to its east as a ditch or trench (S2). A wartime function as a weapons pit with an earthwork breastwork is therefore likely.
