Full Description
A slit trench of World War II date is visible on aerial photographs, centred on TM47325980. The trench is circa 20m long and is zigzag in shape, running from TM47325980 to TM47335970. It is located next to St Mary's Church, Thorpeness, and may be situated here to provide a field of fire over the main road junction in Thorpeness, or in the case of use as an air raid shelter, a central location. The trench is visible on aerial photographs of 1941 and 1942. Unfortunately later photographs from the war are not clear enough to tell if this feature is still in use (S1-3).
