Full Description
The remains of a probable Post-Medieval sea bank are visible as earthworks centred on circa TM46485868. Separating from the later phase of the bank which continues southwards, the relict bank runs in an irregular route for circa 2.2km from circa TM46755898 to TM46555736. A number of further elaborations of the bank are also visible, although it is not possible to be sure whether they are earlier or later in date than the main section. An east-west section and an additional north-south element are visible centred on TM46485868, and a partially eroded stretch heading inland in a north-westerly direction separates from the main trunk at circa TM46355775. This feature is not mapped on the 1st or 2nd edition Ordnance Survey maps of 1884 and 1904 as a bank, but a length of circa 250m appears to be marked as a boundary at circa TM 46555817, suggesting an early Post Medieval date for their construction, and that they had been out of use for some time by 1884. (S1-S4).
