Full Description
An area of second world war anti-aircraft ditches is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs from 1941 onwards, centred on TM46545868. This area was laid out at some time prior to December 1941, and is composed of long thin ditches up to 270m in length and 2 to 3m wide, bordered by circular dumps of spoil around 3 to 4m in diameter. They are arranged in a chess board pattern of irregular squares and were intended to prevent enemy aircraft from landing on the open flat coastal ground. Most of the ditches in this area have been filled or ploughed away by 1955. (S1-S4).
Roughly square area of former marshland containing a complex of trench and mound obstacles. [Plotted from aerial photographs] (S5).
