Full Description

A World War II military site is visible as a number of structures and earthworks, centred on TM 29273414, on aerial photographs taken in 1944. The site consists of a group of small buildings, including one nissen hut, centred on TM 29313408, and a number of other earthwork features. Around 50m to the north of the buildings a large earthwork mound is visible. The mound, located at TM 29303413, may be a gun emplacement or searchlight as it appears to have a central feature, the nature of which is difficult to discern from the photographs. Other features surrounding the central mound include a short trench and bank, an arced bank and two possible concrete hard standings. To the west of the buildings and earthworks another two trenches are visible. One trench, located at TM 29113417, is circular, and the other, located at TM 29173408, is linear with two circular trenches and is very similar to a trench located to the west of the this site (FEX 168). The overall function of the site remains unclear. (S1) (S2) (S3)
