Full Description
Small rectilinear pits of unknown date and function are visible as earthworks in the inter-tidal zone, centred on TM 27423419, in the Orwell Estuary near Waltonferry, on aerial photographs taken in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The pits, each no bigger than 5m by 3m, are located to the west of the oyster beds (FEX 195) on an area of mud flat that is only visible at low tide. The function of the pits is unclear but they may be related to the construction of the oyster beds. (S1) (S2) (S3)
