Full Description

A length of bank of probable Post-Medieval date is visible on aerial photographs from 1943 onwards, to the south-east of Snape, centred on circa TM40372591 (S1). It is visible as a partially eroded length of bank circa 74m long, stretching from circa TM40365687 to TM40385693. It may be an early flood defence barrier that was later superseded by the larger back immediately to the south (see SNP 050. It also appears to be very similar in appearance to the boundary bank to the north that may also have had a flood barrier function (see SNP 088). Indeed, it may be part of the same feature although it is not marked on the early Ordnance Survey maps of circa 1884 and 1904, and is now heavily eroded (S2-3). (S4-5)
