Full Description
Probable Post-Medieval paths or trackways are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, in a field formerly part of Iken Woods, centred roughly on TM39715663. The cropmarks are visible on aerial photographs from 1972 (S1). The northernmost feature is a linear cropmark circa 185m long, visible from circa TM39535658 to TM39655672. The second cropmark is circa 370m in length, and runs in an irregular arc from circa TM39685631 to circa TM39705668. Both cropmarks are in an area previously under part of Iken Woods, and correspond to the line of tracks marked on the Ordnance Survey map of 1884 (S2). On this map the tracks outside the limit of the woods are annotated 'C.T.' for cart track, and it is likely that this was the function of the tracks within the woods. The tracks are not marked on the second edition Ordnance Survey map of 1904, and much of the wood has been felled for cultivation by 1965 (S3).
