Full Description
A trench or air-raid shelter of World War II date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of Iken parish, centred on circa TM39595577. The trench is about 6 x 90m in size, orientated roughly east-west, and located in the corner of a field near Tunstall Forest. Piles of spoil are visible on each of the longer sides of the trench. The feature is located near a large area that was used for military practice and manoeuvres, and so may be related to this activity (see IKN 015). Alternatively, it may have been an air-raid shelter either for the military staff or local civilians. It has been filled in by 1953. (S1-S3).
