Monument record IKN 046 - World War II slit trenches.

A cluster of earthworks centred on circa TM39785558, probably slit trenches of World War II date, are visible of aerial photographs of Iken parish. About 15 trenches are visible, their average size circa 3x1.5m. The four trenches, centred on circa TM39785558 are arranged in a cross formation, with the majority of the remainder arrrayed in rows immediately to the north west and south east. The trenches are located at the edge of an armoured vehicle training area, and are probably related to the function of this area in some way (see IKN 015). More trenches than those mapped were no doubt present, but unfortunately the quality of the photographs does not allow a more detailed transcription. They appear to have been filled and ploughed away by February 1953. (S1-S3)
