Full Description

A probable Post Medieval quarry pit is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs taken from the 1940s onwards, centred on TM 24473620 on Crane's Hill in Shotley parish. The quarry pit is irregular in shape and measures 63m by 40m at its widest points.(S1) (S2) (S3) The pit is not recorded on the 1st Edition 25" Ordnance Survey map of circa 1884 and therefore was probably out of use before this date.
