Full Description
Eight rectangular pits of probable late Post Medieval or Modern date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s, centred on TM24403717 on reclaimed land near Collimer Point, Shotley parish. The pits vary between from 3m to 4m in length and from 1m to 3m wide. They are spread over an area of a few 100m and are located at the edge of the field near the sea bank. The pits are very well defined suggesting that they are likely to be of Modern or late Post Medieval date but their function is unclear. (S1) (S2) (S3)
