Monument record LVT 053 - Post Medieval quarry pit.

A possible Post Medieval sand or gravel pit is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs taken in 1944, located at TM 24214011 just to the north of what is now Levington Park research station, Levington parish. The quarry is irregular in shape and measures 20m across its longest axis. The quarry is aligned on and cuts the long irregular linear boundary (SNH 005) which runs through from south-east to north-west. This boundary has been interpreted as being of Prehistoric origin with evidence of reuse as a field boundary in the Post Medieval period. The fact that the quarry appears to cut this feature suggests that it is of Post Medieval date. (S1) (S2)
