Full Description

A number of possible shellfish pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs from 1940 onwards (S1). The possible pits, centred on circa TM46075422, are visible as features cut into the saltmarsh. A number regularly shaped cuts into the edge of the saltmarsh may mark the location of further possible pits that have been partially eroded by the river. These can also be seen on photographs of 1945 and 1972, along with the continuing effect of erosion upon the saltmarsh (S2, S3).
