Full Description
A World War II barbed wire obstruction is visible on aerial photographs as a structure to the south west of Orford Quay, Orford parish, centred on circa TM42294950. The obstruction consists of two lengths of barbed wire. The first is circa 430m long and can be seen running north west from circa TM42424950 near Orford quay, to TM41994956. The second length of barbed wire also originates near to Orford Quay, at circa TM42414951, but follows the sea wall in an irregular route for circa 600m before turning eastwards towards the river at circa TM42254916. The barbed wire has been removed by September 1945, and was probably dismantled when the Heavy Anti-aircraft Artillery battery immediately to the north was built (see ORF 091). This obstruction probably served a similar function to, and was complimented by ORF 092 to the north east. (S1-3)
