Full Description
A possible causeway of unknown date is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork bank, to the south of Grove House in Hollesley parish, centred on circa TM37134521. The bank is circa 230m long and circa 5-9m wide, and runs from the area of Hollesley Grove in a south eastern direction across the reclaimed saltmarsh. It is not possible to assess the date of the feature from the aerial photographs alone, but it appears to be cut by drainage channels that probably date from the early Post-Medeival period. The feature is still visible as a bank on photographs of 1965 but by 1971 it has been ploughed down and it can be seen as a germination mark, possibly also showing a narrow ditch to either side of the bank. (S1-3).
