Full Description
A ditched square enclosure of possible late prehistoric date can be seen as a cropmark on aerial photographs circa 130m to the north-west of Boyton Hall farm, Boyton parish, centred on circa TM38094650. The enclosure measures roughly 45m to a side and is surrounded by a ditch circa 3 to 4m wide. It is orientated roughly NW-SE, similar to, but not quite matching the alignment of the modern field system. This alignment, combined with a possible association with a wide trackway of probable prehistoric date immediately to the north (see BOY 059), has lead to an interpretation of the enclosure also being of late prehistoric or Roman date. An entrance may be visible near to the southernmost corner, but as the available photographs are unclear it is not possible to be certain.
