Monument record HLY 088 - Possible ring ditch of unknown date, visible as a cromark.

A possible ring ditch of unknown date is visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark centred on circa TM37534585, Hollesley parish. The feature is very faint an only visible on one of the available prints. However, it appears to enclose an area circa 12m in diameter within a narrow ditch less than 1 metre wide. This makes it very similar to a number of more clearly visible nearby ring ditches with which it may be associated (see HLY 025, 027). The ditch appears too narrow to be associated with a round barrow and is more likely to have been the drip gully of a later prehistoric round house. An entrance or causeway across the ditch may be visible on the south-east side, but due the 'backgroound noise' in the crop conditions on the availalble photographs it is not possible to be sure. The feature may also be associated with the surrounding system of ditched field or settlement boundaries (HLY 028). It is not possible to tell from the aerial photographs alone if these linear features are associated with the ring ditches. (S2)
