Full Description

A relict flood defence bank of probable Post Medieval date is visible as a soilmark on Havergate Island on aerial photographs of 1943, centred on circa TM41164728 (S1). The relict bank is now located within the area of land reclaimed by the bank recorded as ORF 102. It appears to be flanked by a narrow ditch and to continue the line of the still extant bank to the north east, suggesting that it may have belonged to an earlier phase of reclamation that either failed or was superseded later in the Post-Medieval period.
