Full Description
A small World War II military camp is visible as a number of structures on aerial photographs taken in 1944, centred on TM 15844123 close to North Lodge, Bourne Hill, Wherstead. The camp consists of a stretch of barbed wire obstruction forming a small enclosure no more than 21m in diameter. Within the enclosure a circular tent is visible. There may also be tents under the trees nearby but these are not clear and therefore have not been mapped. The camp was constructed some time between the 8th April 1944 and the 28th May 1944. The large number of vehicles visible in the field in May have disappeared by July. This may suggest that they were part of the stockpile of vehicles prior to the D-Day landings. (S1) (S2)
