Full Description
A possible round barrow of Bronze Age date is visible on aerial photographs of 1943 as an earthwork centred on circa TM40065323, to the south of Barnes' Carr in Tunstall Forest, Chillesford parish. The feature is only visible on 1943 photographs, as after this date the surrounding area is obscured by the growth of a newly established tree plantation. The earthwork is roughly 25m in diameter and appears to be slightly irregular in shape, possibly due to it's proximity to a boundary or footpath, which may cross the feature. It is possible that this feature is geological and not archaeological in origin, but the limited visibility of the feature and small scale and resultant low level of detail on the useful photographs makes it difficult to be sure. However, it's close proximity to two other barrow features makes the recording of the feature desirable. (S1)
