Full Description

A form of anti-aircraft obstruction known as an anti-glider ditch is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs about 600m to the east of Wantisden Hall, Wantisden parish, centred on circa TM36765213. It is about 142m long, and spoil from its construction is heaped into piles on either side of the ditch, with the intention of destabilising any aircraft attempting to land. For this type of defensive obstruction the ditch in this example is rather narrow, at about only 2m wide. A number of these features can be seen approximately 1km to the north, but they are out of the area of this survey.
