Full Description
An irregular curvilinear enclosure of unknown date and function is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, centred on TM 20893348 on Erwarton Ness. The enclosure is defined by ditches that enclose an area 22m by 12.5m. The enclosure may have been formed by the superimposition of two sub-circular ditched enclosures. There appear to be possible entrances on the western, eastern and northern sides of the enclosure, which are defined by gaps in the enclosure ditch. There are a lot of cropmarks caused by natural features in this area but the enclosure is very crisp and appears to be archaeological. The enclosure is not directly associated with any other archaeological features and is located close to the shore of the estuary. (S1-S3) See ARW 014 and ARW 055 for the field systems to the north.
