Full Description

A possible low earthwork bank of unknown date is visible on aerial photographs on a saltmarsh spur in the inter-tidal zone of the River Stour, centred on circa TM104323 in Brantham parish. The feature may form two sides of a sub rectangular or trapezoidal enclosure, the visible sections forming sides about 100m and 70m long, the missing sides presumably lost to erosion. Alternatively, the earthworks may simply be lengths of a raised track or causeway. Although the location of this feature would appear to be unsuitable for an enclosure, the inter-tidal zone of the River Stour suffers from extensive erosion and this area may in the past have formed a much larger expanse of saltmarsh.
