Full Description

The earthwork remains of a possible causeway of probable Medieval or Post Medieval date are visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards, centred on circa TM11203282, to the south east of Cattawade in the inter-tidal zone of the River Stour, Brantham parish (S1, S2). The feature is visible as a low and much eroded curvilinear earthwork circa 300m in length and on average 5m wide. It is not marked on either the first or second edition Ordnance Survey maps of 1882 and circa 1904, and therefore probably dates to the earlier Post Medieval of Medieval period (S3,S4).
