Full Description

A rectilinear ditched enclosure of unknown date and function is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, located about 700m to the south-east of Brantham Hall Farm, centred on circa TM12553347, Brantham parish. The feature is visible as an isolated, well defined cropmark, as it is located in a small area of well drained loam on the western side of a shallow dry valley or palaeochannel. Although it roughly matches the orientation of the existing Post Medieval field system, its' irregular form suggests an earlier, possibly later prehistoric date. The visible extent of the feature is circa 60m east to west and 45m north to south, but as the southern edge extends into an area of deeper or wetter soils, less conducive to cropmark formation, it could be slightly wider.
