Full Description

About 200m of a Post-Medieval flood defence embankment is visible as an earthwork forming a field boundary about 350m to the north of Stutton Mill House, centred on circa TM13273354, Stutton parish. The bank is probably longer than is mapped, but the full extent of the bank cannot be seen as it is obscured by a hedgeline planted on the bank itself. The feature is marked on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1882, placing its' construction at least within the Post Medieval period, although it could be earlier in date. It appears to be part of a larger system of water management that enclosed the water supply that powered Stutton New Mill, now Stutton Mill House. (S1, S2)
