Monument record STU 073 - A sea wall of Post Medieval date is visible on aerial photographs to the south of The Rough, Stutton parish

A sea wall of probable Post-Medieval date is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards as an earthwork centred on circa TM13813303, Stutton parish (S1). The bank is about 120m in length and follows a dogleg shaped curve on the bank of the River Stour, protecting the low lying land to the north from flooding. It appears on the first edition Ordnance Survey maps of 1882 dating its construction at least to the Post Medieval period, but it could have earlier origins (S2).
