Full Description

A ring ditch of unknown date is visible on aerial photographs, three concentric ditches visible as cropmarks centred on circa TM25934011, in Kirton parish. At its widest point the outermost ring ditch about 1.5 metres wide and circa 23 metres in diameter. The two inner ditches are similar widths and circa 18 and 8 metres in diameter. The function and date of the ring ditch is unclear, but it may be the remains of a Bronze Age barrow which has been increased in size on one or more occasions. Alternatively, the site may have an association with the undated enclosure complex less than 100 metres to the south west (see SNH 029). (S1, S2)
