Full Description

A possible anti-tank ditch of Second World War date can be seen as an earthwork for circa 280 metres on aerial photographs of 1945, immediately to the west of Cowpasture Farm, Felixstowe, centred on circa TM29483613 (S1). Such ditches were constructed to prevent the cross-country advance of enemy armoured vehicles in the case on an invasion, often filling in vulnerable gaps between areas with natural obstructions such as rivers or streams. This ditch can also be seen as a cropmark on aerial photographs of 1974 (S2).
