Full Description

A bombing decoy of Second World War date is visible as structures on aerial photographs circa 300 metres to the south of Bucklesham village centred on circa TM241415, Bucklesham parish. The decoy appears to be a QL site, a type of decoy which employed electrical lighting to draw enemy bombers away from their intended target (see S1 fore further information). QL decoys were often paired with Special Fire (or SF) decoys, as here with BUC 061 circa 500 metres to the south. (S2, S3)
Site of Second World War permanent Starfish bombing decoy site at Bucklesham. It was one of two decoys for Ipswich (S4).
