Earthwork banks visible on aerial photographs and centred on circa TM 473911 in North Cove parish may be the remains of post medieval relict flood defences or causeways built for travel across Castle Marsh. That the banks intersect with extant flood defences at circa TM 470911, TM 472916 and TM 476911, may support the interpretation that they were originally constructed to reclaim the marshland in several stages. However, the intersection with the track known as Wadehall Old Dam at TM 470910 demonstrates that such earthworks may have continued in use as causeways once their initial function was past. (S1, S2)
