Full Description

The remains of a possible drainage ditches across Share Marsh potentially of medieval or post medieval date can be seen as soilmarks on aerial photographs, centred on circa TM 497922, Carlton Colville parish. The ditches are laid out in a roughly north-west to south-east pattern very different to that which partly survives in this area and is marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of circa 1884. Morphologically, the possible ditches have more in common with the curvilinear possible flood banks or causeways recorded as CAC 040. They may belong to an earlier, possibly medieval phase of drainage. (S1)
