Ancient Woodland

Evaluation identified a cemetery thought to be associated with the 'lost' church or chapel known as Ostirbolt and the remains of medieval and post-medieval buildings.

Common, visible 1880s

Large flint tranchet axe, broken in antiquity (large hollow flaw), roughly triangular section, 13cm long x 4cm wide, reddish-brown patination.

Found, 1985 or before, in dredgings from river at this approximate spot and dumped on Stuston Common, at TM 1310 7896, EBA tanged knife.

Probable ancient woodland suggested by the field name on the tithe appontionment that there was once an ancient woodland in this place though it is not actually shown as woodland on the tithe map.

1968: Scatter of flint flakes, cores, etc, found on plough soil and retained by finder.

Flint tranchet axe, triangular section, 116mm long x 34mm wide, light brown patination (S1).

An 18 foot road of compact gravel, cambered, found 9 inches below surface, running N-S.
