House, early C15 with C17 and c.1970 alterations. A 3-bay C15 service cross-
wing, with a truncated C17 hall range to right: 2 storeys and one storey.
Timber-framed and plastered. Roman pantiled roof, once thatched, with axial
and external chimneys of red brick. C20 casements and gabled entrance porch
with boarded door. The wing has twin service rooms with a 3-bay solar above.
Plain framing: coupled-rafter roof, evidence for diamond-mullioned windows and
for jettied upper floor at front. A 2-centred arched service room doorway
(formerly one of a pair); the open hall was demolished, and a range built
further back in C17, with large axial chimney. Much remodelling c.1970. In
1408 John Upston held a tenement in Stonham Aspal called Symonds.
