Description
Evaluation was carried out ahead of the development of six residential dwellings, associated parking, access, landscaping and services. Three trenches were excavated to a depth of 1.08-2.2m. Much of the stratigraphy of the site was dominated by recent made ground associated with the recently demolished structures on the site. These layers averaged at least 1.1m in thickness and served to raise the level of the site above the existing ground level of the street frontage. Below this lay the natural drift deposits and the archaeological features. The drift deposits reveald a slightly mixed interface with the layers of made ground accounting for the two deposits that were recorded. The basal layer of the natural drift was a cleaner deposit than the overlying mixed interface (S1).
