Description

An archaeological excavation was carried out following a trial trench evaluation which, along with aerial photographic evidence, had identified areas of archaeological potential. Approximately 12,840 square meters were stripped down to the level of the natural gravelly sand subsoil in two separate areas. Features that were identified were cleaned manually and then partially excavated. Cremation graves were fully excavated and 100% of cremation fills were removed for sampling and where possible the urns were lift intact. The excavation revealed two large Bronze Age ring ditches and cremations, Anglo-Saxon inhumations and a medieval agricultural complex with atleast two structures (S1).
