Full Description

1999: Archaeological evaluation trenching revealed a concentration of medieval field boundary ditches concentrated in the south western area of the development area. Some of these ditches were observed on aerial photography. A hearth or oven feature was also identified in this area of the site with significant quantities of associated pottery (S1).

2000: Archaeological excavation revealed Medieval deposits consisting of ditches, pits, post-holes and an oven. The majority of the artefactual evidence suggests points to 11th to 13th century date for these features with very little activity after during the 14th century and later. The building could be a dwelling, although it had no diagnostic features that would confirm this and it may instead have been an agricultural building. These features may form the basis of an agricultural complex. The presence of the oven and domestic pottery though does point to some occupation being located in the vicinity (S2-S3).
