Full Description

1969: scatter "found on similar site" (to scatter found "in an area disturbed by the N sea gas pipeline")(S1). 1971: "One small sherd of `Romano-Saxon' ware, orange fabric with a circular raised boss and group of smaller circular indentations, found on plough-soil with a scatter of late Rom sherds..." (S2-S4). 1976: `3 "bags" R-B pot, plaster, shell & material' found on surface (S11).
Jan 1977: Possible Rom iron masonry chisel 15.2 cms long and coin of Constantine II (AD 330-335) handed in by(see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). Returned to finder (unnamed). Finds from recently ploughed land (see 1980 survey map). Chalk rubble and plaster also reported as "coming up in rabbit scrapes" (S5). Nov & Dec 1980: RB field walking survey by J Plouviez located large scatter of worked flint, IA, Rom & ?Sax pottery. Main Rom concentration circa 30m x 30m to E of only ploughed field. Rest undisturbed grassland. Rom finds include grey ware, Nene Valley, Oxford colour coated, shell gritted, Samian, tile and daub (?date). Fragments and patches of chalky soil. See (S6) for details.
Circa 1981/2: Cauldron, fragmentary, sent to NWHCM for conservation. Finder not named (S7).
1983: Second cauldron "with iron axe, no findspot. (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)" (S8). Described as "Ae bowl fragments", with Rom pottery & iron hinges, said to have been found with (1981) cauldron above at (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) - "close to or in river bank, all found in ? pit"(?). Donated to Moyses Hall by finder (S9). Coins also rumoured from this area (by metal detectors)(S10). See also IKL 095.
