Full Description
Fragment of ? circular bronze roundel or pendant found with a metal detector (S1). The fragment is approximately a third of a circle, 5.4 cms in diameter and a maximum of 5mm thick. One face of the roundel bears late La Tene palmette and scroll derived decoration (analogous to that on the Westhall and Weybread terrets) set above a 1 cm cast hole near one edge. Two small roundels on the scrolls have inset amethyst-coloured glass (?). There is evidence for a fine line and pointille outlining around the main shapes, though much has been destroyed by corrosion. The large recesses around the raised design must once have held champleve enamel (probably red) but no trace of this now survives. Probably mid C1 AD.
