Full Description

Circular pit, diameter varying between 2.5 to 2.7m, found during demolition & building work by Carters (general builders). Cut or overlain by cellar floor/s. 3.70m below present cellar floor, cut into solid chalk, infilled with brick rubble and capped in ?late C19/early C20 by brick and concrete. Small access (?) hole in S rim blocked. Presumed to be Ice Store (S1), rather than classic ice house. Now infilled with concrete following removal of brick rubble (S1).
Within timber framed (Grade II) building. C15-16th century Rheinish ware pot found at front and rear of building.
